D-Panthenol (Provitamin B5) is a clear, hygroscopic liquid that converts in skin to pantothenic acid. It attracts and retains moisture in the stratum corneum, helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and improves the look of dryness and flaking. It is compatible with most actives and surfactant systems, and pairs well with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and allantoin. It is easily added to the aqueous phase or during cool-down with moderate heat and a skin-friendly pH.

●       In anhydrous systems: incorporate via a small aqueous phase or a fine water-in-oil phase; insoluble in oils.

●       Target pH 4.5–7.5 for comfort and optimal performance.

Recommended usage levels in skincare:

●       Creams/lotions: 1–3% (up to 5% for intensive care)

●       Gels/after-sun/soothing masks: 1–3%

●       Cleansers/body wash: 0.3–1%

●       Hand care/very dry areas: 1–5%

Solubility:

●       Readily soluble in water, propylene glycol, glycerin, ethanol

●       Insoluble in oils and non-polar solvents

●       Hygroscopic; at higher levels may increase tack—balance with suitable humectant systems.
